  /    /    /  #7: Corregidor Island

Let us now travel to Corregidor Island, one of the most prominent and active seaports in Philippine history. This island is located in the southwestern part of the island of Luzon, at the entrance to Manila Bay. (How cool is that? An island in a bay on an island!) It was the last island in the Philippines to be captured by the Japanese during WWII, making it a historic and sentimental place not only for Filipinos and Japanese, but also for the US, which aided in its liberation. There are still remnants and relics of those battles, such as tunnels where Filipinos and Americans hid during the war and cannons used to fight Japanese ships and aircraft.

Some tourists who have visited the island have expressed a lingering sense of those battles and claim to be able to sense the spirits of the soldiers who died during the war.
